All You Need is Love

I was just reading status updates on Facebook, when I ran across this on a friend's wall:
Don't like gay marriages? Don't get one..
Don't like cigarettes? Don't smoke them..
Don't like abortions? Don't have one..
Don't like sex? Don't have it..
Don't like drugs? Don't do them..
Don't like porn? Don't watch it..
Don't like alcohol? Don't drink it..
Don't like guns? Don't buy one..
Don't like your rights taken away??? Don't take away someone else's.
I usually don't re-post anything on Facebook. I never post political/controversial things on my blog, but this one really resonated in me. There are so many people out there who seem to be determined to "force" us to live the way that they feel we should live. I see so much hate everywhere around me. I watch as people I love are mocked or criticized for being who they are. I hear people whisper behind the backs of others they claim as friends. I see condemnation in the way of eye rolls, head shakes, and hand gestures. It saddens me.
Protesters line the streets with their signs and bull horns, professing to be right. "You have no business doing what you are doing, and we will not stop until we get our way". These protests often end in violence. Is that the greater good?
I accept everyone for who they are. I don't judge because God knows that I have no room there. I have very close friends who are gay. Some of my friends and I smoke. What business is it of yours if I or a friend of mine has an abortion?  Why can't everyone just live their own lives and stop trying to pry into the lives of everyone else?
I searched the internet for appropriate protest photos to put on the blog. I found none that I would feel comfortable posting.  All of the signs are full of hate and are entirely too graphic for my taste. That in itself should say something about the people who are protesting. I decided to let this post speak on its own.
What about you? Do you fight for what you believe in, or do you fight to push your ideals onto others? Why?

  1. First, I am so glad to know they're a people in this world like YOU....

"I accept everyone for who they are. I don't judge because God knows that I have no room there."

And I think if everyone looked at themselves honestly, they too would see they have no room there. Therefore, don't have room to judge.

Sometimes I wonder if people place things like this on Facebook and also their blogs, just to get a attention.

Being someone who is gay, I can't afford to be predjudice or judge others for how they live their lives. As long as people aren't hurting anyone else, I say....be what you are.

I'm also a smoker, but a VERY considerate one. If my smoking bothers someone when they're around me, I just don't smoke - even if they're in MY home. I try to respect others.

No, I don't push my ideals onto others, because I don't like people pushing their ideals on to me. If people don't except me for being gay or for smoking ( or for anything else ), then there is nothing I can really do about that. I accept myself...and to me, that's all that should matter.

GREAT post! So glad you shared it!

Hope all is going well for you and your family right now. I've been thinking about you and sending 'good energy' your way.

    Take care, girl!

  2. Ron, This post spoke about so many people that I love. Hate is one thing that I just refuse to harbor. It hurts me when I see people I love in pain because of someone's ignorance and intolerance. This is a post that I felt I needed to make, if for nothing else than to get it off my chest.

We are still playing the waiting game with my mother in law. She seems to be doing a little better right now, but only time will tell. I so appreciate your thoughts and good energy. Believe it or not, I can feel it.

    XOXO
