Let's Go to the Movies

On Tuesday night, Stump, Bear, Sage, and I went to GTC Danville Stadium 12 to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Yes, I know I'm late going, but I hate crowded theatres.

I needed tickets too!

Then there is the mandatory purchase.

Extra butter? Yes, please.

This is one time when three arms would be beneficial.

The newest fashion trend: 3-D glasses!

The last of the Harry Potter movie posters.

We had a wonderful time seeing a great movie. I walked out of the cinema with teary eyes. I love the way that the series was wrapped up. I won't spoil the movie, but I will tell you this is a must see.

I'm Feeling Buysexual Today

Buysexual - Someone who gets turned on by, or derives sexual pleasure from, shopping, or being taken shopping.
     ~Urban Dictionary

I'm thinking of a lot of ways that I could really get off by going shopping. Here are a few of the things that I'm lusting after right now.

Home for 35 in Newark - Photo from HERE

This house would really be party central. I doubt I would have any problems finding enough friends to fill all of the beds. I'll even wager I would find friends I didn't even know I had.

France Luxury Yacht - Photo from HERE

Although the house is very luxurious and has many amenities, we would need to get away from the house for some site seeing. I think this yacht would definitely fit the bill. It boasts plasma television screens, a saloon and dining area, as well as a ballroom. After dinner we could relax in the whirlpool.

Horses and Stable - Photo from HERE

Some of my friends aren't really water babies like I am. For those who would rather not ride out on the yacht, a stable with horses would be a wonderful alternative. I love riding horses, and I would be torn between which activity to do.

Now that I've shown you the three runners up on my list, I'm going to share with you my heart's desire...

Christian Louboutin Simple 85 Pump - Picture from HERE
(A steal at $595)

Since I am not at all a greedy person, I feel that only one of the items on my list would satisfy me. Just to be fair, I won't be making the decision on my own. To my dearest husband, Stump. I'm going to let you pick one of the four above items that I can purchase.

Semi-Wordless Wednesday - Carolina Beach Advice?

Photobucket

Stump and I have plans for another beach excursion next month. An old friend of mine, Harold, has invited Stump and me to Carolina Beach with him. Of course we are not ones to turn down a vacay, especially when there is water involved.

This will be my and Stump's first trip to Carolina Beach and I'm really excited. I went onto TripAdvisor.com to get some ideas of what to do while I'm there. I found several wonderful photos and will share those with you here:

Doesn't that look like a great place? If any of you have been to Carolina Beach, I would LOVE your feedback. Where should we go? What do we absolutely need to see and do? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Like Saying Goodbye to an Old Friend - Harry Potter, the Final Movie

The last of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,  was released on July 15th. I'm not one to rush straight to the theatre when a movie comes out just because I hate lines, people chattering, and folks I don't know being close up on me in the theatre. I have waited until tonight to go see the ending to one of my favorite stories of all time. After work, Stump and I will be meeting some friends for dinner and then heading to the cinema.

This is going to be a bitter-sweet evening. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the loose ends tied up. I am also sad that this will be the end. I've enjoyed watching Harry, Hermoine, and the Weasley children grow up before my eyes. I've come to love Dobby and Hagrid. I have loved watching the vivid imagination of J.K. Rowling come to life on the screen.  Today I feel like I am saying goodbye to some very dear friends.

As old as I am, I know that it is silly of me to feel this way about a movie. Sometimes the characters in those movies are so strong and leave such an impact that they will never be forgotten. Those movies are few and far between. Those are the movies that become classics.

That same statement can be made about our friends. Sure there are many that come into our lives only for one or two scenes. We enjoy those relationships for what they are, and when they end we move on. But sometimes there are those friends who enter your life and change your entire world. Those are the friends that are there year after year, problem after problem. Those friends are the classics.

I am fortunate to have some of those classics in my friend library. Those are the friends I can't see too many times. They are just like a good movie that you love so much you have to buy it to put on your shelf so that you can see it any time you want.

And then you watch those movies over and over and over again.

I love you guys.

"If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."

— J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)

"It takes much bravery to stand up to our enemies but we need as much bravery to stand up to our friends."

— J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)

"We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."

— J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix)

Payback's a Bitch

In the southern Virginia area, we have our share of afternoon thunderstorms during the summer months. It is pretty much a given that every evening we will have a little thunder and lightening pass our way. Yesterday evening was no exception.

Around 4:30, I started working on dinner. Stump had to leave for work at 6:30, so that gave me plenty of time to have everything ready when he woke up at 5:00 last night. I was making fried fish, baked beans, corn on the cob, and french fries. All seemed to be going well.

Until the thunderstorm.

Just as the food was about half way cooked, our power went out. It stayed out for HOURS. Stump went on to work saying that he would pick something up on his way in. I actually felt sorry for the poor guy, having to eat McDonald's or Hardee's for dinner.

He called me from work around 8:00 last night asking if the power had come back on. I reported to him that it had. When I asked if he got something to eat, his reply was, "Oh yeah. I had Mayflower"!

WHAT??? REALLY??? I'm stuck at home eating what I could salvage of the fish (which by the way wasn't good now) and half - done corn on the cob. HE goes into the city and buys the best fish dinner that Danville has to offer... while I feel sorry for him thinking he had McDonald's.

Payback's a bitch, Stump...

I'm Not Emeril

Last night, I decided to make home made baked beans.

I browned my hamburger along with green peppers and onions. I added the brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, and beans to the frying pan. I was looking for a cassarole dish large enough to contain my concoction, but found that the only thing all of my ingredients would fit in were the aformentioned frying pan.

On thinking it over, I decided that being Emeril cookware, that my frying pan was intended to go from stovetop to oven. Which it did nicely. Call me crazy, but I'm not one who ever thinks to put a frying pan in the oven.

I covered the pan with its lid, placed my creation into the oven at 350 degrees and let it cook for the forty minutes the recipe called for. After forty minutes, my timer went off.

I picked up two pot holders; one for the handle of the pan, the other to help with the weight of the pan itself. I placed it on top of the stove and removed the top. The smell was amazing. I laid my pot holders down and reached for a wooden spoon to stir the fruits of my labor.

As I turned back toward the stove with my spoon, my right hand instinctively grabbed hold of the stainless steel handle of the frying pan. Hey, I'm not used to frying pan handles being hot, O.K.?

I screamed and I cursed.

After taking a minute to shake my hand around the room and to hop around cussing like a sailor, I regained my composure. I picked up my spoon again, very gingerly this time because of the fresh burn on my palm and fingers. Deciding I could not hold said spoon, I transferred the spoon to my un-burned hand.

I stirred the beautiful beans in the pan for a moment, when I decided the lid to the pan should be in the sink rather than on my stove top. Again, I reached out with my poor freshly burned hand, and picked up the lid.

"Damn it!... Holy F@#!... ", I proceeded to curse and flung the hot frying pan lid across the room.

I have now come to the conclusion that even though Emeril Lagasse makes frying pans that you can use in the oven, it is not always in one's best interest to do so.

Stump's Club Anniversary Party

On Saturday, my husband's club celebrated their 43rd anniversary. There was a band, plenty of food, and lots of friends.

On arriving, I ran into one of my oldest friends there. Meet Scott. I've known him since I was twelve. That's been over thirty years. My how time flies.

Scott

Harley Davidsons were the preferred choice of transportation for the night.

The band was amazing. They could play every genre.

This 2011 Sportster will be raffled off in November.

The procedes benefit the Salvation Army. All of the money will go toward toys for underprivileged children in the Danville area this Christmas. If you want to buy a ticket, please feel free to contact me.

Sage arrived on his 250. Stump gave him a hard time... of course.

No outing is ever complete without the company of Momma Boots

My sweet friend, Bear, arriving with chair in tow.
Miss Boots is happy to be there.

Melody looking pretty as always.

I mingled and listened to the band for maybe two hours before taking off for a bite to eat and a few drinks with Sage at Ruby Tuesday. It was a nice and relaxing weekend.

All You Need is Love

I was just reading status updates on Facebook, when I ran across this on a friend's wall:
Don't like gay marriages? Don't get one..
Don't like cigarettes? Don't smoke them..
Don't like abortions? Don't have one..
Don't like sex? Don't have it..
Don't like drugs? Don't do them..
Don't like porn? Don't watch it..
Don't like alcohol? Don't drink it..
Don't like guns? Don't buy one..
Don't like your rights taken away??? Don't take away someone else's.
I usually don't re-post anything on Facebook. I never post political/controversial things on my blog, but this one really resonated in me. There are so many people out there who seem to be determined to "force" us to live the way that they feel we should live. I see so much hate everywhere around me. I watch as people I love are mocked or criticized for being who they are. I hear people whisper behind the backs of others they claim as friends. I see condemnation in the way of eye rolls, head shakes, and hand gestures. It saddens me.
Protesters line the streets with their signs and bull horns, professing to be right. "You have no business doing what you are doing, and we will not stop until we get our way". These protests often end in violence. Is that the greater good?
I accept everyone for who they are. I don't judge because God knows that I have no room there. I have very close friends who are gay. Some of my friends and I smoke. What business is it of yours if I or a friend of mine has an abortion?  Why can't everyone just live their own lives and stop trying to pry into the lives of everyone else?
I searched the internet for appropriate protest photos to put on the blog. I found none that I would feel comfortable posting.  All of the signs are full of hate and are entirely too graphic for my taste. That in itself should say something about the people who are protesting. I decided to let this post speak on its own.
What about you? Do you fight for what you believe in, or do you fight to push your ideals onto others? Why?

Life Is Not Always Fun

Life is not always fun and games. We have to take the bad with the good and this is one of those bad times for my husband Stump and me. Today I don't have a fun post about what we did this weekend. What I do have is a post on one of the harder parts of life that all of us have to deal with at some point in time.

On Thursday, Stump and I got the news that a friend of ours had passed from a long battle with brain cancer. Her funeral was held yesterday.

On Friday, we got a double-dose of bad news. Stump's father had a heart attack. He seems to be ok for now, but is in a nursing home. We also got a call regarding Stump's mother, who is in the same nursing home. We were told that she was not expected to make it through the night. They were doing what they could to make her comfortable. As of this morning, she is still alive and we are waiting on more news.

I will not be blogging every day this week as I have in the past. I will be back when things get back to normal around the MYFWBS household.

Your prayers for the comfort of my husband and his family would be appreciated.

I love you all.

The Highlander - A New Irish Pub in Danville, Virginia

On Thursday, Boots wanted to meet after work. She said she had something for me. When I asked her where, I expected the usual Kickback Jacks, Buffalo Wild Wings, Franks, or Hams. Not today! Danville has a brand new Irish Pub called The Highlander. This is now the only bar/restaurant in Danville that allows smoking. I was up for it, so we went! We were also joined by Mama Boots, Kim, Bear, and later that evening, Sage.

Anyone want to guess at what Boots had for me? I would never have guessed myself. She had found a vintage Lilly Pulitzer Make Up Bag in the Scuba Monkey print to go with the coin purse and coozie I got a couple of weeks ago! How cool is that? I loves my friends <3

Miss Boots with a gift

Lovely Lilly Pulitzer

We ordered bar food since the regular dinner menu was still in the works. The place is still new, but I do have to say I wasn't impressed at all with the kitchen staff. None of our orders were correct when they came out and Mama Boots had to send hers back four times before she got what she ordered. When we finally did get everything right, the food was pretty good. I hope they tighten up on the service. Here is a look at what we ordered:

Burger and fries

The Dublin

Chicken Wrap

Cranberry Salad

Sage joined us after dinner as he was just getting off of work. He, Bear, and I had cocktail after cocktail. They were really hitting the spot. This is how things went early on:

Bear's eyebrow is becoming famous

Me with Sage

Irish Rain, White Russian, and Rum Punch

One martini down the hatch

The later it got, the better (worse?) the night got. Here is a little of that:

All in all, we had a great time. I'm not sure exactly how long I will live after posting these pictures to the blog, but in my own defense... the pic of me is hands down the worst of the lot.

An Irish toast to you all...

My friends are the best friends

Loyal, willing and able.

Now let’s get to drinking!

All glasses off the table!

Happy Friday, everyone. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
