Dancing, Shagging on the Boulevard

Well the Magic Attic's where the music rolls

And the Army-Navy's got ol' Jackie Soul

Down on Peaches Corner there are Good Ol' Boys

And Mother Fletchers makin' lots of noise

They're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

(Peaches Corner, Myrtle Beach, SC)

Well I'm hangin out down at Sloppy Joes

They may doze but they never close

And the Bama Boys at the Bowery

They can't dance but they play for free

But they like dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

They know dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

They wrote dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Shaggin' on the boulevard

Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

For those of you who do not know, Alabama was the house band for the Bowery in the 1970's. You can read a little about that HERE. The Bowery is a small bar, crowded with wooden tables and ladder back chairs. There is a small stage to the rear of the bar, with no dance floor, and the bartenders are known for carrying insane numbers of beer mugs at once. I have seen one with twenty full mugs in his hands, and have been told that wasn't even close to the record. The only drink served at the Bowery is draught beer, and they serve only one kind. No one seems to know what it is.

Sadly, Mother Fletchers, The Magic Attic, as well as the Pavilion and the amusement park have closed forever. I thought I would share a few pictures from the Alabama song about the downtown area of Myrtle Beach, "Dancing, Shagging on the Boulevard".

I will be sharing more pictures from my Myrtle Beach getaway all this week. I hope you enjoy!
